Frey Thanksgiving – Football, Sledding, Cheesecake, and Snow!
November 29, 2010
Welcome back everyone! Who’s started decorating for Christmas now that Thanksgiving is over??!! I had a great time with my husband’s family & of course had my camera to capture it! Here’s a photo montage of how we spent the holiday…drinking my fireside coffee, editing while watching the snow fall, laughing at the boys as the tried to sled over a 6 foot creek and of course lots of photos of Kayla enjoying the snow!
Time to sled!!
Kayla is like a bunny rabbit when it comes to running in the snow….super cute, huh?!
What happens when you get 2 engineers and a brother with no fear together? Extreme sledding….Eric and David made a ramp to go over the 6 foot creek and luckily no one ever fell into the creek! Just several laughs!
Bass Lake in the winter is so serene….saw the football laying there and love this shot!
Eric helped me make my first Cheesecake….Pumpkin! Turns out it’s easier to beat cream cheese when either A) it’s softened or B) you ask your husband to do it for you!
Ta-Da!! It was yummy!
Spent the entire day on Saturday watching the snow fall…and went out for one picture! By the way, Gig’em Aggies!! Whoop! So proud of my school and football team and their big win over Texas!
Also, lesson learned…rain boots are not sufficient when it comes to standing and playing in the snow.

Freyday – Thanksgiving
November 26, 2010
Hey everyone! If you’ve moved off the couch long enough to see if I posted today, you betcha I did! I decided to use today’s Freyday post to make your cozying around the football games warmer and more enjoyable by giving you the most amazing coffee/hot chocolate/yummy goodness recipe! My good friend Mindy shared this with me last year and it’s so simple and easy…and for those of you out there like me who like your coffee full of sugar, you’ll love this!
Fireside Coffee
In a gallon ziplock bag (or pretty jar) combine the following:
3 cups cocoa mix 2 cups instant creamer 1 cup powdered sugar 1 cup instant coffee 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp cinnamon
That’s it! Mix it together, and put 3-4 spoonfuls in your favorite mug and fill with hot water!
Enjoy, I know I will!

Love the coffee mug!!
and I did not have to roll off the couch to read this, (iPhone). I will however, have to roll off the couch to make some hot chocolate. Happy thanksgiving! -
I have been reading your blog for months and I cannot believe I never realized you were an Aggie! Whoop! I am class of ’09! I LOVE that mug, do you have any idea where that came from? I am just guessing it was a gift, but if you know please let me know! By the way, you really take wonderful photos!

Hi Paige! Whoop…I’m class of ’04! I can’t remember, possibly in College Station or I ordered it online…do a google search! It’s one of my favorite mugs!

Christian & Kristen – Bakersfield Wedding
November 23, 2010
Being that this was my last wedding of 2010 and Kristen & Chris were such a fabulous couple to work with, I’m splitting this wedding into 2 posts
Turns out I have a hard time narrowing down my ‘sneak peek’ posts! Especially when there were so many heartfelt details and personal touches like there were at this downtown Bakersfield family wedding. Kristen & Chris’ wedding was set in his parent’s backyard which was so full of stories and natural beauties. You walked through a stone wall with 2 huge bells atop and into a beautiful, natural landscaped yard with bamboo, redwoods, a huge Koi pond, bird sanctuary, and even a collection of bonsai trees! So, in going with the theme, Kristen kept everything very natural, elegant and clean. Enjoy! Come back for the rest on Wednesday!

As an ode to her grandmother, pictured in the frame, Kristen wore her favorite color shoes…pink! And might I add they’re pretty fabulous heels and I’m in love with the details!
Who doesn’t want to stop traffic with a beautiful bride walking down to her ceremony on 21st street!
Kristen had her grandfather’s original Schwinn bicycle cleaned up for her wedding day and I was SO excited to have her pose with it!
Another very touching moment that brought me to tears was the photo of Chris’ son Brock who at 13 lost his life. Kristen carried around his photo in her bouquet and he truly was present the entire day with them.
Wednesday’s post will be here soon with the ceremony, some fabulous photos of Kristen & Chris and the reception at Bakersfield Country Club!

A week ago today I was a nervous ball of energy….I had my puffy Cheetos, a yellow Rockstar, and my music blaring as I drove over the mountains, through LA and down to my old stomping grounds: Mission Viejo. I checked into the hotel and instantly checked my workshop group facebook page…sure enough, a few other photographers were there and met me in the lobby. Thus began some new great friendships and the beginning of an amazing adventure learning from Your Wedding Day Magazine Editor Thea Lignos, Creative Director Cathryn Vanbreen, and the ever-so-fabulous wedding photographer Jasmine Star at the amazing wedding venue Rancho Las Lomas!
Having a week to reflect, read my fellow attendees blog posts, and gather the images I am allowed to post I can honestly say that this workshop has been another jumping point to taking my wedding photography to the next level. Being able to ask honest questions and learn from an Editor’s point of view to bring high fashion to weddings alongside a top wedding photographer’s thoughts, I picked up so many great tips and advice. Then another amazing thing that happened….I met some open, incredibly talented, and just all around amazing photographers from CA, Oregon, Texas, Maryland, Colorado, and Washington. I’ve made instant friends who I know will continue to amaze me as I stalk their blogs, will continue to push me, will be there for me, and a few I can’t wait to work with in the future! Thank you to everyone who took a moment to answer my questions, to chat about the industry with me, to make me feel welcome, and who set up and participated in the workshop (and Sofie…thanks for joining us for dinner as well!)
Here are a few images that I wanted to share! Enjoy!

I took a few inside that don’t show the beautiful sets we worked with. I can’t wait to see them in all their glory when Your Wedding Day comes out this spring!

Ok…quick story….I got my favorite color (yellow) shootsac at last year’s WPPI in the random covers bin. I’d never seen it before and loved it! About 10 minutes after purchasing it, my photography buddy Jen told me I’d just copied J*’s favorite cover. Wait, huh?! Oh well, I’ll never be in the same room with her…..um, except I just was! I casually mentioned to Jd (her husband) that it may be a cute (?!?) idea to get a photo with my new self proclaimed shootsac cover buddy. So, I nervously waited for Jasmine to have a second and asked her to pose with me! Thanks Stephanie for capturing what I never thought would happen…and thanks Jasmine for being so fabulous!
Side note, we all want our husbands be our “Jd” and I gotta say, my hubby is pretty close and just as supportive, now if only I could get him to 2nd shoot for me! Lucky lucky ladies!

My fellow Aggie ladies!! I was so excited to meet both Erica and Chrissy and instantly bond over Texas A&M. We whooped…oh yeah!
We were all invited to the exclusive Your Wedding Day industry party the night before and we had a great time getting to know one another….
Holly, Stephanie, Jasmine, myself & Karen
Matt, me, Karen, Holly, Erin, Stephanie, Leah & Elizabeth
Again, thank you to everyone who hosted the event, for giving us your time and for sharing your talents with us!
To my fellow workshop attendees….I wish we had a few more days to enjoy more time getting to know one another! I’m thankful for facebook and getting to see everyone at WPPI in a few short months!

-
Jessica! I loved meeting a fellow Texan at the workshop. I’m going to send a FB message to all my friends in Bakersfield with your information, too! I’ll copy you on it.
-
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your images and what you wrote. Can’t wait to hang out again soon!!!
-
This is awesome Jess! Beautiful photos! And because I realize it’s a little nerdy of me to be “the friend who actually knew what Jasmine’s shootsac cover looked like”…. in my defense: she wrote about it on her blog…and if you’re not ready Jasmine’s blog, then you just aren’t cool.
-
I am seriously contemplating re-doing my wedding. with YOU as my photographer!!! love these photos!!! when are you coming to visit us????????
-
Awesome photos, Jessica! Loved getting to hang out with you and giving you a hard time
Hope to see you at WPPI! -

Freyday – Marine Corps Ball
November 12, 2010
Another Freyday! Here’s another peek into my life behind the lens….as a military wife! I’m so proud of my husband, Captain Frey, and was thrilled that for the first time in 3 years, my wedding schedule allowed me to attend the annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball last Saturday! I’ve had this big beautiful red bridesmaid dress for 2 years now just waiting for the perfect opportunity, such as the Ball…and I thought it would match his uniform fabulously
Plus I totally felt like a princess, minus the glass slipper of course. I actually continued to wear my wedding day black tennis shoes underneath since heels were not going to work for this lady! Have a wonderful weekend, and I can’t wait to share my experience from the last 2 days down here in Orange County with amazing vendors, Your Wedding Day magazine and learning from THE Jasmine Star*!
Also….if you’ve made it this far, I am starting up my monthly newsletter again thanks to my fabulous assistant Rachel! If you would like to be on the list, please contact me with your email address before Monday! Have a great weekend! -Jessica

Matt & Jenny’s Wedding Part 1- Bakersfield Wedding Photographer
November 10, 2010
When I met with Jenny and her parents (and then eventually the fiancee, Matt) over a year ago, I knew their wedding day was going to be special and fun! The planning and details were sweet, elegant, and a mixture of the couple…a little bit vintage, a little bit fun, and total romance. Thank you, Matt & Jenny for letting me into your lives, for choosing and trusting me to capture your special day,and a huge thank you to the families and wedding party for being so welcoming! I feel blessed to have been a part of it….even in my red ball gown afterwards dancing with you guys before heading off to join my husband at the Marine Corps Ball!!
I had so many favorites and have decided to split this post into 2 parts. Enjoy the first half, and look for Part 2 on Monday!

Have a fantastic day! As for me, I’m off to an amazing workshop with Jasmine Star and the editors of Your Wedding Day Magazine for the next two days. Email and Voicemails will be returned as soon as I can! Thanks!! - Jessica

Oh of course I vote for number 6!! What kind of car is that again? I still have no idea.
But I thought it was so awesome that you found a hood-ornament you could put the rings on. Perfect.
