Jessica Frey Photography – Love Photo Shoot Giveaway!
February 8, 2012
Yes – thank you Ryan Gossling for your introduction
Valentine’s Day is approaching and you can just feel the love in the air – or maybe it’s because I’m bombarded with a pink and red aisle at the grocery store and have good friends as florists and bakers – anyway, with all this love in the air, I wanted to do something to thank you all for following my blog, for supporting my dream and for always leaving such sweet comments on the projects and clients I’m working with!
To me, it’s a blessing that so many couples have allowed me into their personal space to capture moments of their unique love story. It truly is such a joy for me to watch/photograph people so madly in love that they forget I’m with them and just laugh/hug/kiss and have fun together! It’s magical – and it’s not just for engagement sessions! Yes, those who are newly engaged make for awesome oooie-gooie love sessions, but being a married couple of almost 8 years, I know it’s still important to update those wedding photos and I try to do something each year with my hubby (thanks to my amazing photog friends in the industry!) Freyday Fun
January 27, 2012
I’ve been wanting to do a ‘random things about me’ post for a while now, and I think today is the day! I will have some behind the scene photos of me photographing our Beauty and the Beast shoots next Freyday so make sure to come back for those….it’s gonna be good!
5 Things you probably didn’t know about Jessica:
1) I took Russian for 6 years – Middle School, High School and College. But don’t ask me to ever speak to a Russian – it’s been 10 years, so without much practice that skill is long gone! I can howerver write, read & speak you a poem I learned in 7th grade
1a) I lived in Russia as an exchange student for a month in 1996! Da!
Привет! Меня зовут Джессика

.
2) I have a random obsession with Irish Step dancing – I hear the music and my feet just move on their own. I wish I had taken lessons!
2a) I may or may not have bought a pair of hard sole step shoes from Ireland and had them shipped to California. You know, just in case I ever get a chance to take lessons!
2b) I may or may not be on a first name basis with the band Sin Ri Ra at Nine Fine Irishmen in New York New York – Las Vegas
3) I’ve worn contacts for 17 years. Ug. Too scared to do lasik eye surgery, and without my contacts I’m completely helpless!
4) I LOVE, I mean LOVE playing basketball! I may only be 5’6″ but I’ve got a mean 3 point shot – and was a wiz at the freethrow line…..and I’ll box you out low and hard if I have to – Game of 21 or HORSE anyone?!
4a) My mom was a HS Varsity basketball coach, so I kinda had to start playing young – I adore the photos of me as a little girl with perfect follow through on my fisher price Dr. J hoop and foam ball! And here is my photo from high school – Go Lady Tigers!
5) I’m deathly afraid of pillow fights. But only because when I was 10 I was at a sleepover and my friend’s brother hit me with a pillow causing me to fall backwards….and break my arm!
5b) Full arm cast and a week later I was on the basketball court shagging balls and ended up breaking my thumb on my other hand. Double awesome for a 10 year old.
And if you’ve scrolled down enough, here’s a surprise sneak peek at our Beauty & The Beast – modern day inspired Wedding!!

Join us on Monday and Wednesday for the full story of our photo shoot! Have a great weekend!!!

A Tale As Old As Time….
Wow. A few days ago, 4 car loaded with friends and props headed up through the rain to the Sierra mountains an hour east of Bakersfield…and had an adventure! The weather called for 1.2 inches of snow and when we all arrived to the destination, it was magical to say the least to see the ground covered in white…and for the next 4 hours, it continued. And continued. And continued. I’m pretty sure we shot through at least 4 inches of non stop sleet and snow!!
For those of you who saw the Snow White inspired shoot I did last month, here is my take on Beauty and the Beast! Today’s blog is full of images from our “Fairy Tale” part of the photo shoot….and the main shoot – the wedding inspired one, will be coming to you on Monday AND Wednesday AND Freyday next week! Check my facebook page for sneak peeks throughout the week though!
What you see here is a collection of items (outfits and props) from my house, from our model, Jessica’s house, and from good friends! I can’t thank everyone enough for their help, carrying equipment, props, picking up items, dropping off items – and making both of these styled-shoots a success! [Jessica, James, Pam, Dale, Amanda, Makenzie, Lauryn, Lauren, Laura, Tiffany Colleen, Sylvia, Stephanie, Jenae, Jerry and Shari]
We had an epic adventure as the snow and wind came down on us while Jessica & James assumed their characters
Teaching the Beast to read can be tough sometimes….
And last but not least…..Having fun playing in the snow!

Engagement photos in a forest – Logan & Sara
January 16, 2012
I love when engagement sessions concepts dig a little deeper…..how can I help showcase your love and what you two like to do though photographs? What makes you two unique? Those are typical questions I ask all of my couples, and it’s often tough figuring out the answers! I talked with Sara and they knew that for them, they loved the outdoors especially since Logan is a botanist (my new go-to flower/tree expert for sure!) and wanted to go somewhere different and surround themselves with trees. They originally schedule a January snow/forrest engagement session with me, and as the date got closer we all realized – um, there’s no snow! We decided to shoot anyway and ended up having a wonderful time in 50 degree weather in the mountains surrounded by fresh, clean air and beautiful trees (I was told what kind several of them were, but I quickly forgot – sorry Logan!). I had a blast getting to know these two as they hugged, posed, did their best Zoolander and laughed as I danced to Alanis Morrisette and AFI
Anything to make you guys laugh! Thank you for a fantastic afternoon and congratulations!!! Enjoy your sneak peek at a few of my favorites, and Sara, HIGH FIVE on all of your outfit color choices!!! Your thought and effort into how everything would look together paid off! - Jessica
Congratulations you two!!!

Jessica Frey Photography – 2012 Weddings!

Jessica Frey Photography Promotional video
Make sure to watch the last 30 seconds of the video…it’s my favorite and you are in for a special treat!!!
Are you getting married in 2012?! If so, Congratulations on planning the greatest day of your life!
This time-frame between Christmas and Valentine’s day is one filled with excitement for women, and especially wedding vendors….it’s the most popular time for couples to get engaged!! I love hearing about all of the sweet holiday/Valentine’s day proposal stories and how you’re planning to make your day special and unique to your love story
It’s this time of year you’re attending Bridal Shows and quite possibly becoming overwhelmed at all of the different options that are now open to you because you’ve got a shiny ring on your left hand….and I hope that I can help alleviate some of that stress today. I received an email from Martha Stewart Weddings last week – and it had a ton of lists….questions to ask your wedding vendors. I was intrigued to see what was being put out there for you to use, so I figured why not go ahead and fill it out and put it out there on my blog for you guys to read! SO, although I have many more answers with more elaborate answers, here are 3 pages of questions you should ask your photographer – filled out in Jessica Frey Photography format….so enjoy, and if you are looking to book photography for a 2012 wedding, I’d love to hear more from you and see if we click! (pun intended…haha.) -Jessica Frey

I hope this has helped some of you brides out there with those ‘go to’ questions for your photographer…and if it sounds like we might be a good fit, I look forward to hearing from you!!! Have a wonderful day, and Congratulations!

Freyday – Happy New Year!
December 30, 2011
Hi everyone!! I hope you all had a good break for the holidays – and a restful Christmas and/or Hanukkah! I can’t belive it’s the last Freyday of 2011! Where has this year gone?! It’s been a wonderful year full of amazing/awesome/kind/wonderful/fabulous clients! Thank you everyone for following my blog, my photography….and my life! Your support and comments are always a pleasure and quite often the boost I need on days where being a business owner gets a tad bit overwhelming! So, thank you again for all of your continued support!
I’ll leave you all today with the cover of the 2012 Bakersfield Life Vows edition – many of you will recognize it as one of my all-time favorite images I took this year of Jordyn out in our local almond orchard! It comes out in print tomorrow (Saturday) in the Californian. If you’re local – go grab yourself a paper and it will be inside the January edition of Bakersfield Life. For everyone else, they will be handed out locally around town and I’ll post the online version either here or on Facebook! *Also, you’ll find an interview I did alongside 3 other female wedding vendors – Fairy Godmother, Lady DJ, and Ladies & Gents Bridal! It was a fun experience playing the roll of photographer and model with these wonderful ladies, so check it out!!
Be Safe and enjoy ringing in the NEW YEAR Tomorrow!!! - Jessica

Thanksgiving – Texas A&M vs Texas Football
November 23, 2011
Gobble Gobble! It’s Football time!!! Whoop!! (And Happy Thanksgiving!)

For all you non Texans out there who don’t celebrate the annual Texas A&M vs. t.u. football game on Thanksgiving, then let me describe to you how excited I am for what may be our last rivalry Thanksgiving game. I”M PUMPED!!! WHOOP!! The annual rivalry is being held at Kyle Field this year and what I wouldn’t give to be there in the student section standing, yelling and kissing my husband everytime we score —- yeah, you Aggie’s know we love that tradition!
(all images from google images – I haven’t been back to a game in 7 years…boo!)

This is my family – Mom and I on the Aggie side and Dad and brother on the Longhorn side. Trust me, it’s led to batles – about 6 years back when A&M won, I’m pretty sure my baby brother and I didn’t speak for 2 weeks. It’s kind of an intense rivalry
Good thing we’re adults now and it’s just a game, right……especially since my beloved Aggies are going to totally dominate this year!!
So one last WHOOP! Pass it back Ags! Enjoy the time with your families, friends and having at least a day to rest, breathe, relax and just enjoy all the things in life you’re thankful for!

Hey Jessica, have you done sessions on Campus? I know it is a lot of travel for you, but I think with your eye the pictures would be amazing!
-
Hi Mere! Thanks! I was flown out there 6 months ago to do a maternity and family session and had a blast walking back around campus! Was only there for about 6 hours, but would love to go back and do more for sure!

Bakersfield Life Magazine
November 7, 2011
Bakersfield has been home now for 3 1/2 years for Eric and I and I’m proud to say that I’ve been blessed working as a freelance photographer for over 2 of those years for Bakersfield Life Magazine – part of the Californian. It truly has allowed me to meet some wonderful people here in this town and has helped me feel a sense of pride that I have the ability to take part in preserving part of it each month through the images I take.
I had the pleasure last night to photograph a Tapas party at the Brenham home for the December issue and got to speak with Californian CEO (and dinner guest) Richard Beene – who was kind enough to ask how business was going, to thank me for providing wonderful images each month and to make sure that I was being taken care of and still enjoying my monthly assignments. We really are a small town community here in Bakersfield and I’m so thankful the Marine Corps brought us here – and has kept us here!
The November issue has been out a week now, and I was so excited to see that an image I took for the new section “Foodie” was chosen as the cover shot. So, for those of you not local, here is what our newest issue looks like! Also, you can always view the magazine and past issues online at: www.BakersfieldLife.com or go directly to the online version here: http://issuu.com/bakersfieldlifemagazine/docs/november_blife/1
